Monika Langthaler, Director of the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative, took part in the Climate Week NYC event “A Reality Check: Moving from Crisis to Hope” on September 22, 2025. The discussion took place aboard the Fortescue Green Pioneer, the world’s first dual-fuel ammonia-powered vessel — a powerful symbol of innovation in one of the most challenging sectors to decarbonize: shipping.

The event brought together leading scientists, policymakers, business leaders, and cultural voices. Among the distinguished speakers were Rainn Wilson, Emmy-nominated actor, author, TIME-recognised climate advocate, and Co-Founder of Climate Basecamp, who brought a unique perspective on the role of storytelling and culture in driving climate action; Dr. Andrew Forrest AO, Founder and Executive Chairman of Fortescue, Founder of the Minderoo Foundation, Chairman of Tattarang, and one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in 2025; and Professor Gail Whiteman, Hoffmann Impact Professor at the University of Exeter, Founder of Arctic Basecamp, and Co-Founder of Climate Basecamp.

Earlier this year, Rainn Wilson also joined the AUSTRIAN WORLD SUMMIT 2025 as a live speaker, underlining his ongoing commitment to using his platform to raise awareness for climate issues. Together, the speakers explored how the world can move beyond the climate crisis and turn fear and frustration into meaningful action.

“This event showed me that even in the face of a global crisis, there is incredible strength and creativity when people come together. It gives me a renewed sense of hope and determination to keep pushing for bold solutions,” Langthaler said.

The key message of the evening: tackling the climate crisis will take courage, bold solutions, and global cooperation — but with shared determination, we can transform today’s challenges into a hopeful, sustainable future.
