Fabreco Eco Breathe
A smart city sensor designed for asthma patients and people vulnerable to respiratory issues
Project Dates
Start: 2022
The Story
As the impacts of climate change and air pollution worsen, vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and asthma patients are among the most affected. Fabreco Eco Breath is an internationally awarded high-sensitivity medical sensor designed to detect, in real time, airborne particles and environmental triggers that can cause asthma attacks and other respiratory issues, particularly in vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, neurodivergent individuals, and women affected by hormonal cycles.
Using an advanced air detection valve, it monitors bronchial health in real time and provides actionable data for prevention and treatment. The system includes an adaptive interface for neurodivergent users and uniquely incorporates menstrual cycle tracking, recognizing that asthma symptoms can vary by gender and hormonal phase. Powered by AI, Eco Breath detects pollen, humidity, and pollutants, offering personalized alerts based on environmental and userspecific data.
Its hardware follows a circular economy model, transforming recycled polyester textiles into smart components. The device connects to a mobile app and IoT air quality networks.
Success Factor | Hero Moment
Their hero moment came when Fabreco’s project, while participating in a national program by the Taiwanese Ministry of Education, gathered over 20 million votes. This overwhelming support demonstrated the urgency and relevance of their solution for respiratory health, helping us gain national visibility and further validating their impact.
