Sasa Braun is an experienced crime investigator with three decades of experience within the German Police. He has spent half of his career investigating organized crime on a transnational level. As a seconded officer from the German State Department for Criminal Investigation (Landeskriminalamt Nord-Rhein Westfalen) to INTERPOL, he has operationally supported several member countries in combating environmental crime for the past eight years.Sasa Braun specializes in pollution crime and illegal mining within INTERPOL’s Environmental Security Sub-Directorate. He has extensive experience in coordinating global and regional operations on waste trafficking and the illegal extraction and trade of critical minerals, as well as illegal sand mining. At the request of member countries, Sasa has been deployed several times as part of operational support teams to assist law enforcement authorities worldwide in combating pollution crime, including mercury trafficking in crime convergence with illegal mining.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Sasa is an avid traveler who loves nature and exploring new cultures. This passion also helps him professionally, as it enables him to easily connect with law enforcement authorities from diverse cultural backgrounds.
