S.Lab

Packaging made to disappear

Project Dates

Start: 2021

The Story

S.Lab creates packaging that protects both products and the planet. Made from agricultural waste and mycelium, S.Lab packaging is entirely plant-based. It offers the same protective qualities as polystyrene but breaks down naturally in just 30 days. The material is water-resistant, durable, thermally insulating and free of toxins.
S.Lab’s key innovation lies in its scalability: the production is fully automated, which allows the packaging to be made on the industrial scale. The company also plans on launching automated mini-factories later this year. They can be deployed anywhere in the world and will help to cut logistics emissions and make sustainable packaging locally accessible.

Success Factor | Hero Moment

A key milestone for S.Lab was the launch of its own automated production line in Spain — a proof that truly sustainable materials can be manufactured at industrial scale. This unlocked the ability to run pilots with leading brands like L’Oréal, JTI and Nespresso, marking a shift from prototype to real-world impact.
